Iran: Explosions disrupt south-north gas pipeline, Feb. 14

Explosions along Iran's south-north gas pipeline disrupt operations in several locations as of early Feb. 14.

Warning

Blasts targeting the south-north gas pipeline occurred in Iran early Feb. 14. Authorities have said that the explosions are a result of a "sabotage and terrorist action." The affected natural gas pipeline runs from Chahar Mahal va Bakhtiari Province in western Iran to northern cities on the Caspian Sea. Iranian authorities have further stated the explosions impacted several areas of the gas pipeline.

While officials have downplayed the impact of the explosions, stating that no gas cuts had occurred in major provinces, reports indicate that multiple districts in Esfahan and other provinces are experiencing disruptions. Similarly, gas supplies to businesses in North Khorasan, Zanjan, and Lorestan provinces have been disrupted.

Further disruptions to public infrastructure and utilities remain possible.

Prepare for disruptions to gas supply. Adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities. Maintain contact with your diplomatic representation.

No dissident or militant group has taken responsibility for the blasts. However, the incident comes amid heightened geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. Arab separatists in southwestern Iran have previously perpetrated attacks against oil pipelines.
