Spain: Bank sector workers plan protest marches in Barcelona, Seville, and Valencia Feb. 21 /update 1
Unionized banking sector workers to protest and march in Barcelona, Seville, and Valencia, Spain, Feb. 21. Localized disruptions possible.
Banking sector workers represented by the CCOO, UGT, and FINE labor unions will stage protest marches in Barcelona, Seville, and Valencia on Feb. 21 to demand increased salaries and better working conditions. Organizers have released the following beginning and end points for the actions, although they have not announced the start times:
Barcelona: Demonstrators will gather in Rambla de Catalunya and march to Catalunya Square.
Seville: Demonstrators will gather in Avenida de la Constitucion and march to Plaza Nueva.
Valencia: Demonstrators will gather on Les Barques Street and march to Pintor Sorolla Street.
Several hundred protesters will likely participate in each march, based on previous similar events.
Authorities will likely deploy increased security along the march routes. Localized transport and business disruptions are possible. Business disruptions near protest sites could occur. Violence is unlikely.
Exercise caution in central areas of Barcelona, Seville and Valencia through Feb. 21. Allow extra time to reach destinations near the protest location. Heed instructions from authorities. Leave the area at the first sign of any security incident.
