Informational

Unionized public sector employees in the medical, educational, and administrative spheres plan to strike across Ticino Canton on Feb. 29. The purpose of the work stoppage is to demand higher wages. Most participants will stop work from either 13:00 or 15:00 through the end of the day.

Additionally, some participants will gather for a series of demonstrations in Bellinzona. Protesters will gather at Piazza Governo. Subsequently, unionized workers from across the canton will arrive at Bellinzona train station at 17:00, march to Piazza Governo, and commence a combined rally at 18:00. It is unclear how long the demonstrations may last or how many participants may attend.

Medical, educational, and administrative service disruptions are likely throughout the canton. Scattered picket protests are possible; heightened security and localized transport disruptions are possible near any picket protests that take shape.

Reconfirm all medical and administrative appointments scheduled for Feb. 29. Avoid all demonstrations as a standard precaution. Strictly heed all instructions from authorities.
