Police are continuing their response to an earlier shooting incident outside the Istanbul Palace of Justice in Caglayan, Istanbul, on Feb. 6. Two gunmen attempted to attack a police checkpoint outside the courthouse around 11:46, injuring six people before being killed by police. Authorities state the gunmen belonged to the Revolutionary People's Liberation Party/Front (DHKP/C) and have declared the incident a terrorist attack.
Authorities will almost certainly maintain a tight security posture in the area over the coming hours, while the emergency response continues and police conclude their investigations. Police have cordoned off the area; localized traffic and business disruptions are likely. The Palace of Justice, which serves as a courthouse, has been locked down.
