Officials are investigating murder of two foreign nationals in Belmopan, Belize, as of March 13.

Belizean authorities are investigating the killing of two Dutch nationals in Belmopan Market in central Belmopan as of March 13. Reports indicate that the two victims were walking in the market at approximately 15:00 the previous day when an individual with a gun pursued and fatally shot them; another individual was also wounded. Police have arrested the suspect. However, the motive for the attack remains unclear at this time.

Belize has one of the highest murder rates in the world, with approximately 22 homicides per 100,000 people annually. The presence of armed gangs is responsible for many killings.
