Activists plan to hold multiple protests throughout Santiago March 29, to commemorate the Day of the Young Combatant in honor of two activist brothers killed during the military dictatorship in 1985. Specific times and locations have not been confirmed, but authorities have increased security and monitoring in 14 areas of the city, where rallies and roadblocks are more likely to occur:

Protests in downtown Santiago, including along Bernardo O'Higgins Avenue (also known as La Alameda) and near Plaza Baquedano (also known as Plaza Italia) are likely. Heightened security, transport and business disruptions are likely throughout the region. Acts of vandalism, including the burning of tires, trash cans, private vehicles, buses, and other objects, are possible. Clashes between demonstrators and police are also possible.

Avoid all protests as a precaution. Do not attempt to cross a roadblock if you encounter one. Strictly heed instructions from authorities. Plan for delays and alternative routes.
