Congo: Road transport unions plan to strike nationwide March 11-13

Transport unions plan to strike nationwide in Republic of Congo March 11-13. Ground transport disruptions likely, protests possible.

Informational

Several unions representing road transport employees, including truckers, public transport, bus, and taxi drivers, have issued a nationwide strike notice 05:00 March 11-March 13. The unions are denouncing several measures planned by the government, including increased costs of car registration and driver licenses, among other issues.

Should the strike go ahead, ground transport disruptions are likely, as is increased demand for private car hire. Unions may organize actions such as protests along major roads and urban centers including in Brazzaville, near government buildings and transport hubs, including Brazzaville Airport (BZV).

Avoid all demonstrations as a standard precaution. Book alternative ground transport in advance and allow extra time for travel, including to and from BZV March 11-13.
