France: Unionized public transport workers plan to strike in Paris region April 4

Unionized workers employed by RATP, the Paris and wider Ile-de-France region public transport operator, plan to strike, April 4. The CGT union is calling for increased pay for its members. The impact of the strike action has not yet been detailed. Rail network services are likely to be reduced by between one-third and two-thirds. Metro, bus, and tram services are likely to be affected; the network operator will publish details in the 48 hours before the industrial action.

The strike will likely result in increased traffic congestion and demand for alternative public transportation. Services which do operate are likely to be more congested than usual. Demonstrations are possible outside train depots, in central areas of Paris, and outside government buildings. Additional police will likely be deployed to monitor all protests; related security measures may lead to localized transport disruptions. Any protests that may materialize will likely remain largely peaceful.
