Gambia: Ferry service to be limited on Banjul-Barra route through at least mid-April due to maintenance work
Ferry service on Gambia's Banjul-Barra route to be limited through at least mid-April due to maintenance work.
Ferry services between Banjul and Barra will be limited through at least mid-April due to maintenance work on the vessel Kunta Kinteh. National operator Gambia Ferry Services (GFS) expects the work to begin on March 6 and take about six weeks to complete. In the meanwhile, limited crossing service will be provided using the vessel Kanilai. GFS officials are advising travelers and freight truck operators to use the Senegambia Bridge to transit the River Gambie during the maintenance period; the bridge is located along the N4 (Trans-Gambia Highway), about 114 km (71 miles) east of Banjul.
Travel and freight transport delays are likely for the duration of the maintenance work due to the distance involved in use of the recommended alternative route.
Reconfirm ferry travel arrangements across the River Gambie until the planned vessel maintenance work is completed. Plan accordingly for potential cross-river travel and shipping delays.
