Greece: Unionized workers to hold protest march in central Athens March 28

Unionized workers to march from Omonia Square to Ministry of Finance in Athens, Greece, from 16:00 March 28. Heightened security likely.

Warning

Unionized workers plan to march from Omonoia Square to the Ministry of Finance building on Syntagma Square from 16:00 March 25. Participants will gather at Omonoia Square before marching to the Ministry of Finance, where they will rally from 17:00. The purpose of the demonstration is to denounce layoffs at LARCO (the General Mining and Metallurgical Company.) It is unclear how many participants may attend.

Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely along the march route. Confrontations, potentially escalating to clashes, between demonstrators and law enforcement officers cannot be ruled out.

Avoid the affected area as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling near the march site. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur.
