Lithuania: Activists to demonstrate in Vilnius March 17

LGBTQ activists to protest at Russian Embassy in Vilnius, Lithuania, from 12:00 March 17. Heightened security likely.

Informational

LGBTQ activists plan to protest at the Russian Embassy located on Ukrainian Heroes Street (Ukrainos Didvyriu) in Vilnius from 12:00 on March 17. The purpose of the demonstrations is to denounce a Nov. 30 Russian Supreme Court ruling classifying the "international public LGBT movement" as extremist. It is unclear how many participants may attend.

Heightened security is likely near the demonstration site. Localized transport disruptions are possible. Though unlikely, low-level confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement officers cannot be ruled out.

Avoid the affected area as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling near the protest site. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur.
