Unionized farmers continue protest in central Warsaw, Poland, March 7. Further unrest, transport disruptions likely.

Around 30,000 unionized farmers are reportedly protesting in Warsaw as of March 7; increasing numbers of farmers are reaching the city, blocking roads in its surroundings. Protesting farmers are blocking the roads E67, A2 highway, and S17, leading to Warsaw. The number of participants could increase through March 7.

The ongoing demonstrations are occurring in response to protesters clashes with police at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister and the Sejm on March 6. Demonstrators - who had gathered to denounce agricultural policies and demand EU restrictions on Ukrainian agricultural products - broke through barriers to enter the premises of the Sejm, and police reacted using tear gas. As violence escalated, 13 law enforcement officers were injured, and 23 participants were arrested. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has reportedly agreed to meet with farmers' representatives on March 9.

Protesters will likely remain in the demonstration area until the beginning of official negotiations. further clashes are possible. Heightened security and transport disruptions will continue around the protest site. Authorities have organized alternative routes for commuters in the affected areas.

Avoid the areas near the Chancellery of the Prime Minister and the Sejm. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur.
