Poland: Farmers' protests and blockades likely along parts of borders with Germany and Czech Republic through at least late March /update 1

Protests and blockades by farmers in Poland likely in areas along borders with Germany, Czech Republic through at least late March.

Warning

Farmers in Poland will likely continue their campaign of protests and blockades at crossing points along the nation's borders with Germany and the Czech Republic until at least late March. The purpose of the action is to demand EU restrictions on Ukrainian agricultural products.

On March 9, demonstrators will depart from Sieniawka at 10:00 and blockade the Zittau Chopinstrase-Sieniawka crossing with Germany and the Hradek Nad Nisou-Sieniawka crossing with the Czech Republic. Organizers expect 200 protesters to participate and for the action to last approximately 8 hours. On March 10, farmers will blockade the Swiecko-Frankfurt and Gubin-Guben border crossings with Germany starting at about 10:00. Similar actions are possible at other international crossing points with little to no warning.

The farmers' protests will likely disrupt cross-border vehicular and pedestrian traffic. Authorities will likely maintain a heightened security posture near affected crossings in order to monitor the situation and to minimize disruptions.

Plan accordingly for freight and passenger transport delays via affected border crossings. Confirm the status of border crossings before travel or routing shipments; consider alternative routes to circumvent protest locations. Heed instructions from security services. Leave the area at the first sign of a confrontation. Do not attempt to pass through any protester roadblocks; allow police to remove them before proceeding.
