Planned power outage to occur in parts of Viti Levu, Fiji, 06:00-18:00 April 14. Disruptions likely.

Informational

The Energy Fiji Limited (EFL) announced that planned power outages will occur in parts of Viti Levu, including Momi, Nadi, and Sigatoka, as well as from Navua to Wailekutu, 06:00-1800 April 14. The utility provider will conduct maintenance work on a transmission line from the Waqadra Substation to the Momi Substation and the Wailekutu Substation to the Deuba Substation. The disruption will likely affect thousands of EFL customers. Officials have said that people should stay clear of all power lines.

Traffic disruptions are probable due to malfunctioning traffic signals in affected areas. Businesses without backup generators will likely suspend operations until power resumes. In areas without electricity, mobile voice and data service, ATM, and fuel station disruptions are also possible. Blackouts could adversely affect security protocols, including alarm systems and electronic fences; opportunistic criminal activity could increase during the electricity disruptions.

Charge all communication and portable electronic devices when possible. Limit the use of mobile and communication devices to preserve power and ensure backup batteries are available. Plan for traffic delays due to the potential for malfunctioning or nonfunctional traffic lights. Exercise caution when driving in the impacted areas, especially at night. Verify that security systems are working. Ensure that generators are functional and refuel when necessary.
