Gambia: Oil marketing companies suspend planned nationwide strike as of April 4 /update 1

Gambia's authorities announce planned oil marketing companies nationwide strike suspended following renewed negotiations, as of April 4.

Informational

The Gambia Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) has announced that the Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) planned nationwide strike has been suspended as of April 4. This is reportedly due to renewed negotiations between both parties. The OMCs had threatened to strike to denounce the government's decision to unilaterally decrease trade premiums on petrol products without consideration of operational expenditures and rising fuel costs, among others. Authorities have appealed to consumers not to purchase or store excessive amounts of fuel.

Increased security remains possible near government offices, fuel depots, or fuel stations as a precautionary measure. Further strike action is possible should negotiations break down.
