Gambia: Water supply disruptions reported in Banjul and surrounding areas Dec. 13
Water supply disruptions reported in Banjul and surrounding areas, Gambia, Dec. 13 due to burst pipe; related business disruptions possible.
Gambia's National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC) has announced that a burst pipe has prompted authorities to temporarily shut down the water supply in Banjul and several surrounding areas on Dec. 13. In addition to the capital, water supply disruptions have reportedly affected Sukuta, Bijilo, Brusubi, Kotu, and Serrekunda. NAWEC has deployed a technical team to restore the supply of water "as quickly as possible." Officials did not immediately provide an estimated time at which water distribution would be fully restored to affected areas.
Business disruptions are possible, especially for companies that rely on large quantities of municipal water.
Stock up on drinking water and confirm alternative water supplies for business operations if operating in the impacted areas. Use only bottled water from reputable suppliers for drinking and hygienic purposes. Water pressure and quality may be poor after service resumes; run taps for several minutes before using water. Minimize nonessential water use for the duration of the outage.
