Honduras: Planned electricity outages to cause disruptions in several areas through at least April 26
Planned electricity outages to continue affecting several parts of Honduras, including parts of Tegucigalpa, through at least April 26.
The electrical utility provider of Honduras, the National Electric Energy Company (Empresa Nacional de Energia Electrica, ENEE), announced scheduled electricity outages across parts of the country until at least April 26 to carry out maintenance work.
Outages of up to eight hours are scheduled from 08:00 April 24. Areas affected include parts of the Central District (including Tegucigalpa), as well as the municipalities of Bonito Oriental, Danli, El Progreso, La Ceiba, San Francisco de Yojoa, Santa Rosa de Copan, and Villanueva. Several other municipalities will also be impacted in the coming days, including San Pedro Sula, where power cuts are planned for April 26. Transport and business disruptions are likely in affected areas; businesses without backup generators could temporarily suspend operations. Mobile voice and internet service disruptions are possible. The electricity disruptions could also affect ATMs and fueling stations. The blackouts could adversely affect security protocols, including alarm systems and electronic fences; opportunistic criminal activity could increase during power outages, especially during hours of darkness.
Charge mobile and essential electrical devices when possible and ensure backup batteries are available. Exercise caution when driving in areas impacted by the power outage. Park vehicles in secure areas. Confirm business appointments. Verify that security systems are working. Ensure that generators are functional and refuel devices when necessary. Avoid protests as a standard precaution.
