Niger: Activists to stage demonstrations nationwide 08:30 April 13

Activists plan to stage protests countrywide in Niger starting at 08:30 April 13 to denounce US military presence. Avoid all protests.

Warning

Activists associated with the Synergie des Organisations de la Societe Civile Nigeriene (Synergy of Nigerien Civil Society Organizations) plan to stage demonstrations in cities across Niger starting at 08:30 April 13. The purpose of the protest action is to denounce the presence of US and foreign military forces in the country. In Niamey, participants will gather at Place de la Tuomo before marching to the Assembly Roundabout. Related gatherings will take place at unspecified locations in the cities of Agadez, Dosso, Maradi, Zinder, Tahoua, Tillaberi, and Diffa. Participation will likely vary by location.

Authorities in the Nigerien capital plan to close the area between the Third Goudel Bridge Roundabout and the Yantala Roundabout to traffic between the hours of 07:00-13:30 April 13. Local residents, and employees of foreign diplomatic missions or other agencies within the closure zone are exempt from the restriction, provided they can show proof of justified reason for being in the area.

A heightened security presence and localized transport and business disruptions are likely near any protests that materialize. Clashes with security forces remain possible, particularly if demonstrators are overly disruptive or ignore police orders to disperse.

Avoid the protest as a standard precaution. Consider using alternative routes if operating near the impacted areas. Abide by all official directives. If violence occurs, leave the area immediately and take shelter in a secure, nongovernmental building.
