Spain, UK, Germany: Activists to demonstrate in cities in Spain, Germany, and the UK April 20
Activists to protest in Canary Islands, Spain, and several cities in Spain, Germany, and the UK April 20. Heightened security likely.
Activists plan to protest in the Canary Islands and several cities across Spain, Germany, and the UK on April 20. The purpose of the demonstrations is to demand limitations on tourism in the Canary Islands in order to limit damage to the local environment. It is unclear how many participants may occur. Planned demonstrations include but are not limited to:
Barcelona: Placa d'Urquinaona from 13:00.
Berlin: Neptune Fountain (Neptunbrunnen) 13:00-15:00.
Granada: Subdelegation of the Government (Subdelegacion del Gobierno) on Gran Via de Colon from 12:30.
Las Palmas de Gran Canaria: Auditorio Alfredo Kraus on Avenida Carretera del Rincon from 12:00.
London: London Eye from 12:00.
Madrid: Puerta del Sol from 12:00.
Malaga: Plaza de la Constitucion from 11:00.
Puerto del Rosario: Island Council of Fuerteventura (Cabildo Insular de Fuerteventura) on Calle Primero de Mayo from 12:00.
Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely near all planned demonstration sites. Additional unannounced protests are possible throughout the Canary Islands. Though unlikely, low-level confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement officers cannot be ruled out.
Avoid all protest areas as a standard precaution. Remain alert for demonstrations across the Canary Islands. Allow additional time if traveling near protest sites. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediatley depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur.
