Turkiye: Activists to stage Al-Quds Day rally in central Konya starting at 18:30 April 4

Activists plan to stage a rally at Kulturpark in central Konya during the evening of April 4. The gathering has been organized by the Anatolia Youth League (Anadolu Genclik Dernegi, AGD) to mark International Al-Quds Day and show support for Palestine. Participants will assemble at Kulturpark starting at 18:30; similar AGD events commemorating Al-Quds Day during previous years have drawn thousands of attendees. It remains unclear whether demonstrators will remain within the park or will attempt to march from there through the city. The 2024 rally could see particularly large crowds, given that it takes place against the backdrop of the ongoing Israel-Hamas war.

Although the event will probably remain largely peaceful, authorities will undoubtedly deploy an increased security presence in the vicinity of the demonstration as a precaution. Localized business and transport disruptions are likely. Isolated security disturbances cannot be ruled out.
