Argentina, Uruguay: Flooded rivers lead to evacuations along the Uruguay River as of May 12

Officials are responding to flooding of the Uruguay River, which forms the border between Argentina and Uruguay, May 12. Flood waters from Brazil's Rio Grande do Sul State have increased river water levels. Approximately 500 people residing near the river in Concordia, Argentina, have been evacuated as of May 12. Urban centers along the course of the river, including Gualeguaychu, are on alert for further river level increases. In Uruguay, hundreds of people have been forced to evacuate near watercourses, including in Paysandu and Salto.

Emergency response operations will likely persist until flood waters recede. Flooding is likely to impact locations in close proximity to watercourses in the region. Associated disruptions to road travel and possibly power supply are possible.
