Congo: Further power outages likely nationwide through end May

Power outages have been reported nationwide in the Republic of Congo, including in Brazzaville; further disruptions are likely through end May. The reasons for the shortages are unclear but could be related to a lack of fuel affecting gas-powered stations, low water levels hampering hydropower stations, or the collapse of an electric pylon near Pointe Noire.

Temporary commercial and communications disruptions are likely during power outages; cellular and mobile services will probably be affected. Traffic disruptions and longer driving times are likely during these periods due to malfunctioning traffic signals. Power outages could also result in temporarily unavailable essential services such as ATMs and filling stations. There is an increased security threat during power outages.
