Costa Rica: Officials suspend nationwide power rationing measures as of May 16 /update 2

Officials suspend power rationing measures in Costa Rica as of May 16 due to improved hydroelectricity generation.

Informational

The Costa Rican Electricity Institute (Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad, ICE) announced the suspension of electricity rationing measures nationwide as of May 16. This announcement follows improvements in hydroelectricity production and increased rainfall. Rolling power outages of up to three hours per day were planned through at least May 17.

Officials could reimplement power rationing measures depending on the amount of rainfall in the coming days and weeks.

Develop or review business continuity plan (BCP) sections regarding possible utility outages. Identify business-critical functions that require a power supply. Invest in generators and, if applicable, uninterruptible power supply (UPS) units. Power laptops, tablets, mobile phones, and other business or travel-critical appliances regularly. Heed the directives of officials.
