Spain: Activists demonstrating in central Madrid May 30

Activists protesting at the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party office in Madrid, Spain, as of evening May 30. Heightened security reported.

Informational

Activists are protesting at the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE) headquarters on Calle de Ferraz in Madrid as of the evening of May 30. The demonstration is in reaction to the government's decision to grant amnesty to organizers of the 2017 Catalonian Independence Referendum. It remains unclear how many participants may join the gathering as the evening progresses.

Heightened security will continue at the protest site until demonstrators disperse. Localized transport disruptions are likely and may intensify into late May 30. Confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement officers or supporters of opposing political camps cannot be ruled out.

Avoid the affected area as a standard precaution. Allow additional time to reach destinations near the protest site. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign of any security disturbance.
