Activists to stage protest march in Granada, Spain, 21:00-23:00 May 17 to denounce anti-LGBTQ discrimination; transport disruptions likely.

Warning

Activists affiliated with various organizations plan to stage a protest march in Granada late May 17. The purpose of the demonstration is to denounce anti-LGBTQ discrimination. March organizers have called on participants to gather at Plaza del Carmen at 21:00. Police assert that the demonstrators plan to march from Plaza del Carmen to Plaza Albert Einstein via Calle Reyes Catolicos, Calle Recogidas, and Calle Pedro Antonio de Alarcon. Authorities have reported that the demonstration is slated to conclude by 23:00. The number of people that may participate in the march was not immediately clear.

Police have specified that protest-related transport disruptions will likely affect roads near and on the march route from 20:45, and that Camino de Ronda will serve as a detour route for buses. Authorities will probably deploy a heightened security presence to the affected area to monitor the march. Counterdemonstrations cannot be ruled out. Clashes between demonstrators and police, or between groups of opposing activists, are possible amid the protest.

Avoid the demonstration as a precaution. Consider taking alternative routes to circumvent the march and any related disruptions. Allow additional time to travel in the affected area of Granada during the protest. Adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
