Political activists will stage protests in Madrid on May 18 and 19 in response to a political summit led by the Spanish right-wing party Vox in the city. Representatives from various right-wing parties Europe-wide will reportedly participate in the summit. Several Spanish left-wing organizations will lead protests denouncing the summit. Several thousand people are likely to participate.
At least two major gatherings will occur in the city:
May 18: Demonstrators will gather from 12:00 in Callao Square
May 19: Demonstrators will gather from 11:00 in Colon Square
Secondary demonstrations and events will likely occur throughout Madrid May 18-19.
Authorities will almost certainly deploy increased security to monitor the gatherings and the political summit. Road travel and transport disruptions will likely occur near the affected areas. Demonstrators, political activists from opposing factions, and law enforcement officers could engage in violent confrontations.
Avoid the protest as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling near the demonstration site. Heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign of any security disturbance.
