Austria: Educators demonstrating in numerous cities nationwide June 6
Educators protesting in several cities in Austria June 6, including in central Vienna. Heightened security, transport disruptions likely.
Educators are demonstrating in numerous cities across Austria June 6. The protests are part of the annual Action Day for Education (Aktionstag Bildung) campaign, which calls for increased support for education. Gatherings are planned or underway in Bregenz, Innsbruck, Graz, St. Polten, Steyr, and Vienna. In Vienna, demonstrators are marching to Sigmund Freud Park, from which they plan to march through the city center. Approximately 1,500 demonstrators are registered for the Vienna march. Authorities have closed the ring road near the Vienna Opera.
Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely in the city centers Bregenz, Innsbruck, Graz, St. Polten, Steyr, and Vienna. Though unlikely, low-level confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement officers cannot be ruled out.
Avoid all demonstrations as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling in central areas in any of the affected cities. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur.
