Government supporters gather in San Salvador, El Salvador, for presidential inauguration June 1. Heightened security, disruptions likely.
Numerous supporters of President Nayib Bukele are gathered in San Salvador's Historical Center on June 1, as he is set to be inaugurated for a second term. Officials are maintaining tight security throughout the city, including in and around Plaza Gerardo Barrios, Plaza Libertad, and the National Library. There is a heavy security presence around the National Palace, where the inauguration ceremony for Bukele's second presidential term is taking place.
Foreign dignitaries are also present for the ceremony. Transport and business disruptions are likely through central San Salvador and other areas of the capital through at least early June 2. Protests by activists opposing Bukele's government cannot be ruled out.
Avoid all large gatherings as a precaution. Strictly heed instructions from authorities. Plan for business and transportation disruptions into early June 2. Confirm all transport arrangements and allow additional time to reach destinations. If violence occurs, immediately take shelter in a secure, nongovernment building.
