France: Activists to protest in central Rennes June 20

Political activists to protest in central Rennes, France, from 18:00 June 20; increased security, localized disruptions likely.

Warning

Political activists plan to protest in Charles de Gaulle Square, Rennes, from 18:00 June 20, to denounce the rise of right-wing politics in France following the electoral results of the European elections held on June 6-9. Similar demonstrations in Rennes have drawn large crowds; around 6,000 participants reportedly attended a previous demonstration held on June 11. Comparable numbers of participants are likely on June 20. Counterdemonstrations are possible.

Authorities will likely deploy an increased security presence to monitor the event. Transport and road travel disruptions are likely near the affected area. Clashes between police and protesters, as well as between supporters of rival political groups, cannot be ruled out.

Avoid all demonstrations as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling through Rennes June 20. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign of any security disturbance.
