Mexico: Unionized education workers to stage protest march in Oaxaca, Oaxaca State, June 14

Teachers affiliated with the National Coordinating Committee of Education Workers (Coordinadora Nacional de Trabajadores de la Educacion, CNTE) plan to stage a protest march in Oaxaca, Oaxaca State, on June 14. The purpose of the demonstration is to demand justice for teachers who experienced police brutality during a 2006 sit-in protest campaign. Protest participants will reportedly gather at Crucero de Viguera from 09:00 before marching toward the Zocalo; demonstration organizers did not immediately specify the intended march route. The number of people that would participate in the demonstration was not immediately clear.

Officials will likely deploy security personnel to monitor and manage the march. Transport disruptions will probably affect the vicinity of the demonstration. Clashes between protesters and security forces cannot be ruled out.
