Mexico: Unionized teachers blockading Merida International Airport (MID) in Merida, Yucatan, as of June 6

As of the afternoon of June 6, a group of unionized teachers affiliated with the National Education Workers Union (Sindicato Nacional de Trabajadores de la Education, SNTE) is blocking access to Merida International Airport (MID) in Merida, Yucatan. The purpose of the action is unclear; however, reports suggest the activists are protesting after authorities failed to host a meeting regarding protesters' demands.

Authorities will likely deploy an increased security presence near MID to remove protesters. Access to MID may be disrupted until demonstrators are cleared. Clashes between demonstrators and security forces cannot be ruled out.
