Norway: Unionized airport groundstaff threaten strike at multiple airports from June 12

Unionized airport groundstaff threaten strike at multiple airports across Norway from 12:00 June 12; flight disruptions likely.

Informational

Unionized groundstaff at seven airports across Norway threaten strike action from 12:00 June 12. Members of the NTL (Norwegian Civil Service Union) are in dispute with the Norwegian airport operator Avinor. Authorities warn that the strike will result in passenger disruptions and possible flight cancellations at the following airports:

  • Oslo Airport (OSL): Officials confirm that there will be minimal impact at OSL, although the airport may suffer secondary effects from disruptions elsewhere.

  • Alesund Airport (AES): Operations will be severely impacted during working hours and the airport will close in the evening.

  • Bergen Airport (BGO): The strike will stop all scheduled airline passenger traffic; however, helicopter and emergency operations will continue.

  • Bronnoysund Airport (BNN): All airport operations will cease.

  • Forde Airport (FDE): Scheduled airline flights will cease; helicopter operations will continue.

  • Kirkenes Airport (KKN): Operations will be severely impacted during working hours and the airport will close in the evening.

  • Kristiansand Airport (KRS): Restricted operations in the afternoon and evening.

Unless averted, the strike will impact passenger air travel nationwide. It is not known how long the industrial action will continue. Participating airport staff could stage picket protests, including at or near OSL. Authorities would likely deploy a heightened security presence to the vicinities of any related demonstrations that materialize, and associated road transport disruptions cannot be ruled out.

Confirm flight reservations if scheduled to travel in Norway in coming days. Do not check out of accommodations until onward travel is confirmed. Allow additional time to travel to the airport and complete passenger processing procedures. Consider making alternative arrangements for time-sensitive travel if necessary.
