Spain: Activists to demonstrate in several cities June 20-23
Activists to protest in several cities in Spain June 20-23. Increased security, localized traffic disruptions possible.
Activists plan to conduct a series of demonstrations in the cities of Lleida, Barcelona, and Madrid June 20-23. The purpose of the gatherings is to demand the release of an activist who is in prison on charges related to an altercation during a protest. It is unclear how many participants may attend. The following events are planned:
Barcelona: Protest at Jardins de Salvador Espriu (also known as Jardinets de Gracia) from 20:00 June 22.
Lleida: Protest at Placa de la Paeria from 19:00 June 20.
Madrid: Protest at Plaza de Tirso de Molina from 12:00 June 23.
Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely near all protests. Confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement officers, potentially escalating to clashes, cannot be ruled out.
Avoid the protest areas as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling near a demonstration site. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign of any security disturbance.
