Political activists to stage rally in Bangkok, Thailand, from 15:00 June 13. Increased security, transport disruptions likely.

Informational

Political activist group Thalugaz plans to stage a rally in Bangkok June 13. Demonstrators will gather at the 14 October 1973 Memorial 13:00-14:30 for a seminar before marching to the office of the President of the Supreme Court from 15:00. The purpose of the action is to demand bail rights and the release of detainees facing political charges. Participants are also commemorating 30 days since the death of prominent activist Netiporn Sanesangkhom while in detention May 14. Dozens to hundreds of demonstrators could join the rally.

Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely around the protest sites and march route. If police attempt to forcibly disperse the gathering, isolated scuffles are possible.

Avoid the rally as a precaution. In the event of violence, leave the area immediately and proceed to a secure, nongovernmental building. Allow additional time for travel to nearby destinations; use alternative routes to circumvent the march route. Heed all local security and traffic advisories.

Sanesangkhom, more commonly known as 'Bung,' began a hunger strike Jan. 27 to demand reform of the justice system after her arrest on charges under the penal code's section 112, which allows authorities to imprison people convicted of insulting or threatening members of the royal family.
