Clashes may prompt further violence in Kinsele area, Kwamouth territory, Mai-Ndombe Province, DRC, July 13.
Further clashes between security forces and Mobondo militants are possible through at least late July amid renewed violence in Kwamouth territory, Mai-Ndombe Province. Clashes opposing security forces and Mobondo militiamen left at least nine soldiers and one woman dead, while about 40 militiamen were killed in the Kinsele area on July 13. Militiamen belonging to the Yaka community reportedly accused security forces of siding with a rival Teke community. Kinsele is located about 130 km (80 miles) east of Kinshasa.
Authorities will likely maintain a heightened security presence near Kinsele over the coming days, including along the N17 road highway. Authorities could implement movement restrictions such as curfews and checkpoints.
If operating in Kwamouth territory, limit nonessential travel. Leave the area at the first sign of any security disturbance and avoid concentrations of security personnel. Consider traveling in convoy with a security escort and during daylight hours only. Maintain contact with diplomatic missions. Adhere to all directives issued by local authorities, including curfew orders.
