Honduras: Protesters causing traffic disruptions in several urban centers July 31
Protesters causing traffic disruptions in several urban centers across Honduras July 31.
Activists are protesting and blocking roads in several parts of Honduras July 31. Demonstrators have gathered along CA-5 Highway near El Durazno, disrupting traffic between Tegucigalpa and northern parts of the country. Additionally, demonstrators have gathered along Bulevar del Sur in San Pedro Sula and along CA-13 Highway in the Puente Rio Bonito area in La Ceiba. The purpose of the protests is to make demands regarding hemodialysis treatments. Demonstrators may also gather along other highways and key thoroughfares in the coming hours.
Disruptions to traffic are likely to continue in the coming hours; passengers traveling to Palmerola International Airport (XPL), Toncontin Airport (TGU), or Goloson International Airport (LCE) could face traffic delays. Although the gatherings are likely to remain peaceful, skirmishes cannot be ruled out, especially if police attempt to disperse protesters forcibly.
Avoid all demonstrations as a precaution. If violence occurs, leave the area immediately and seek shelter in a nongovernmental building. Heed the instructions of security personnel.
