Security breach prompts flight disruptions at Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, Jamaica, July 21
As of the afternoon of July 21, a security breach has prompted flight disruptions at Sangster International Airport (MBJ) in Montego Bay. Reports indicate that authorities discovered what looked like a firearm in images during baggage screening; the passenger reportedly had already passed through pre-screening and entered the departure lounge. Authorities subsequently enacted emergency procedures and ceased the boarding and departure of all flights and are currently looking for the passenger and their bag to verify the contents.
Increased security and flight disruptions are likely to continue until authorities identify the individual and conclude their investigation. If the operation becomes protracted, lingering disruptions are possible.
Heed all instructions from local authorities. Confirm flights if scheduled to travel via MBJ July 21. Do not check out of accommodation until onward travel is confirmed.
