As of the afternoon of July 21, authorities have resumed operations at Sangster International Airport (MBJ) in Montego Bay following a security breach. Officials initially enacted emergency procedures after discovering what looked like a firearm while examining baggage screening images; the passenger had already passed pre-screening and entered the departure lounge. After investigating the passenger, their belongings, and the terminal, authorities discovered the item in question was a hand gun-shaped lighter.

Lingering flight disruptions are likely over the coming hours as airport and airline officials work through passenger backlogs.

Heed all instructions from local authorities. Confirm flights if scheduled to travel via MBJ on July 21. Do not check out of accommodation until onward travel is confirmed.
