Malta: Activists to protest in central Valletta starting at 09:30 July 29
Activists to demonstrate at the Central Bank of Malta in Valletta, Malta, from 09:30 July 29; heightened security likely.
Activists affiliated with Repubblika, a civil society organization with the stated aim of "enhancing human rights and democracy in Malta," plan to protest in front of the Central Bank of Malta in Valletta from 09:30 July 29. The purpose of the action is to call for the resignation of Edward Scicluna, Governor of the Central Bank of Malta, who is facing charges of fraud and misappropriation in connection with a deal related to the transfer of management of three state hospitals to a private healthcare company. Several dozen people will probably participate in the demonstration.
Although the demonstration will likely remain peaceful, authorities will probably deploy an increased police presence near the rally location to monitor the protest. Localized transport disruptions are possible.
Avoid the area of the announced gathering as a standard security precaution. Allow extra time to reach destinations near the Central Bank of Malta until the demonstration has ended and the participants have vacated the area. Heed the instructions of local security personnel.
