Activists are protesting at the Puerta del Sol in Madrid as of the evening of July 29. The purpose of the demonstration is to denounce the alleged illegitimacy of the official results of Venezuela's July 28 presidential election. It was not immediately clear how many people were in attendance; however, several thousand people attended a related protest in Madrid on July 28, and a similar number may participate in the July 29 demonstration.
Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely near the protest site. Low-level confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement officers or ideologically opposed individuals cannot be ruled out.
