Argentina: Protest, march scheduled in downtown Buenos Aires on Sept. 4
Retirees and opposition organizations to march in downtown Buenos Aires, Argentina, at 15:00 on Sept. 4 to oppose a presidential veto.
Retirees and members of multiple opposition organizations, including the Workers' Union of the Popular Economy (Union de Trabajadores de la Economia Popular, UTEP), plan to hold a protest and march in downtown Buenos Aires on Sept. 4. The action is to oppose President Javier Milei's recent veto of a bill to increase pensions for retirees. Activists plan to gather outside the National Congress, starting at 15:00, and march to Plaza de Mayo, where a rally will occur.
Heightened security in the area and associated transport and business disruptions are likely. Clashes between police and protesters are possible; a similar demonstration in late August ended with clashes and multiple people arrested.
Avoid all protests as a precaution. Plan for delays and additional time if operating in downtown Buenos Aires the afternoon of Sept. 4.
