Authorities are disposing of an unexploded WWII bomb in near the A43 highway in Herne the afternoon of Aug. 15. Authorities established a roughly 600 meters (1,969 feet) cordon around the operation site. The A43 highway is closed in the affected area. Approximately 1,800 individuals are under evacuation orders. It is not known when the operation will conclude.

The evacuation order, heightened security, and road closures will likely cause localized transport disruptions during the bomb disposal operation. Lingering disruptions are likely through late Aug. 15. Rail disruptions are likely near the operation area.

Avoid the operation area. Allow additional time if traveling near the evacuation zone. Strictly heed all instructions from authorities. Allow additional time for rail travel via Herne.
