Germany: Tightened controls to expand to all land borders effective Sept. 16
German authorities to implement tightened border controls on all land borders from Sept. 16. Entry and exit disruptions possible.
German authorities will expand an existing set of tighter controls to encompass all of the nation's land borders effective Sept. 16 as part of their efforts to stem irregular migration. Increased controls already in place with Germany's southern and eastern neighbors will remain in force, with the new order extending the measure to the borders with Belgium, Denmark, France, and the Netherlands. Tighter controls are scheduled to last through at least March 15, 2025; however, authorities may end these restrictions early or renew them depending on operational needs.
Some travel delays are possible at affected border crossings. Nations bordering Germany may enact their own reciprocal measures in the coming weeks.
Allow additional time to cross borders where tightened controls are in place. Keep important travel documents on hand. Remain courteous and cooperative if stopped for inspection by border officials. Strictly heed all instructions issued by local authorities.
