Islamic State (IS) has claimed responsibility for a late Aug. 23 knife attack that killed three people and wounded at least eight others at a festival in Solingen in Germany's North Rhine-Westphalia state. The group made the claim Aug. 24 via one of its social media accounts. Nevertheless, investigators are still trying to determine the motive for the attack, although they reportedly cannot yet rule out terrorism. According to authorities, a lone attacker began stabbing people indiscriminately in the city's central square, known as the Fronhof. Police have arrested the suspect.
Authorities will almost certainly maintain an increased security posture in the impact area as their investigation continues
