Germany: Unionized Discover Airlines flight staff extend nationwide strike through Sept. 1; partial Lufthansa CityLine strike occuring Aug. 29 /update 2
Discover Airlines flight crews extend strike across Germany through Sept. 1. Lufthansa CityLine cargo pilots striking until 23:00 Aug. 29.
Unionized pilots and flight attendants with Discover Airlines (4Y) extended their nationwide strike through 23:59 Sept. 1. The purpose of the work stoppage is to demand progress in collective bargaining negotiations. Discover Airlines staff initially planned to strike from 00:01 Aug. 27-23:59 Aug. 30. In support of this work stoppage, Lufthansa CityLine (CL) cargo pilots are striking until 23:00 Aug. 29.
Flight disruptions are likely across the Discover Airlines network through late Sept. 1 and the Lufthansa CityLine cargo flight network through late Aug. 29; residual disruptions will probably extend for several hours after the strikes end as the carriers work to reposition aircraft and work through passenger backlog. Although union leaders have not announced any gatherings, striking workers could picket or protest outside airports served by the airline or near Discover Airlines and Lufthansa CityLine offices. Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are possible near any such demonstrations.
Reconfirm travel arrangements if booked to fly on Discover Airlines through early Sept. 2. Reconfirm planned cargo shipments via Lufthansa CityLine Aug. 29 and early Aug. 30. Do not check out of accommodations until onward travel is confirmed. Allow extra time to clear check-in and security for Discover Airlines flights and for Lufthansa CityLine shipments during the strike periods. Avoid all demonstrations as a standard precaution.
