On Aug. 25, clashes erupted between members of two local communities after a Hindu idol was damaged at a temple. The incident resulted in at least five injuries, the burning of 16 residences, and damage to several vehicles. As of Aug. 28, officials have extended several ongoing measures, including an increased security presence and curbs on public movement and gatherings of five or more people, through 01:00 Aug. 31; further renewed measures remain possible.

Officials are maintaining an increased security presence in the affected area. The government could implement further enhanced restrictions, including telecommunication curbs, depending on operational needs. Authorities could also expand such restrictions to encompass additional regions, including Agartala, if significant violence occurs. Further clashes between various communities or between activists and police cannot be ruled out over the short term. Associated localized transport and business disruptions are likely.
