Ongoing evacuations, disruptions, amid unexploded WWII ordnance disposal operation in Gorizia, on Italy-Slovenia border, Aug. 25.
Authorities are currently disposing of an unexploded WWII bomb on the Gorizia/Nova Gorica border between Italy and Slovenia, early Aug. 25. The device was discovered near the Nova Gorica railway station on Aug. 22. Around 2,000 Italian residents and 3,000 Slovenians were evacuated in a 600 meter (1,968 feet) radius. The disposal will reportedly occur between 10:00-11:00 and the operation conclude by 13:00.
The evacuation order, heightened security, and road closures will likely cause localized transport disruptions during the bomb disposal operation. Lingering disruptions are likely through Aug. 25.
Avoid the operation area. Allow additional time if traveling near the evacuation zone. Strictly heed all instructions from authorities.
