Spain: Unionized security staff to commence strike action at Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernandez Airport Aug. 15-18

Unionized security staff plan intermittent strike action at Alicante-Elche Airport, Spain, Aug. 15-18. Airport disruptions likely.

Informational

Unionized security staff plan to recommence strike action at Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernandez Airport (ALC) Aug. 15-18. Around 300 members of the CSIF, CCOO, USO, and UGT labor unions are demanding improved working conditions; the unions started the campaign of intermittent strikes Aug. 1-4 to target the airport's busiest days. Labor unions plan the work stoppages for 08:30-09:30 and 18:00-19:00 each day. Local authorities advise passengers to allow additional time for airport processing. The unions have called for a further intermittent strike Aug. 30-31.

The industrial action will likely prompt passenger processing delays, and may lead to additional queues and possible flight disruptions at ALC. Striking workers may form pickets at the airport entrance. Lingering disruptions are possible for several hours after the end of the strike period.

Reconfirm all flights via ALC Aug. 15-18. Allow extra time for airport processing and security checks. Do not check out of accommodation until onward travel is confirmed.
