Activists plan to gather for late activist's birthday at Bangkok Remand Prison in Thailand 17:00-20:00 Aug. 8. Increased security likely.
Activists plan to stage a demonstration at Bangkok Remand Prison 17:00-20:00 Aug. 8 to commemorate the birthday of late activist Netiporn Sanesangkhom. Participants will likely protest the penal code's Section 112 and demand the release of detained activists. Dozens of people will likely participate in the gathering.
Authorities will probably deploy additional security personnel to monitor the gathering. Localized transport disruptions are possible, especially if participants occupy or march along nearby roads. Isolated scuffles are possible.
Avoid the demonstration as a standard precaution. Immediately depart the area at the first sign of any security disturbance. Heed all instructions from law enforcement officers.
Netiporn Sanesangkhom, more commonly known as Bung, died in detention May 14. The activist began a hunger strike Jan. 27 to demand reform of the justice system after her arrest on charges under the penal code's section 112; section 112 allows authorities to imprison people convicted of insulting or threatening members of the royal family.
