Officials are responding to three explosions that occurred in Pattani on the afternoon of Aug. 9. Initial reports indicate an improved explosive device (IED) was placed inside a pickup truck near the fishing pier in Tambon Bana, with two other IEDs exploding near the Muang Pattani police station. One person was injured. The motive for the attack remains unclear. No group or individual has claimed responsibility. Police have cordoned off the incident sites. Additional information will likely be provided in the coming hours.
Heightened security, as well as associated localized transport and business disruptions, will likely continue in the affected area until clearance operations and investigations end. Further explosions cannot be ruled out.
